If you were an entrepreneur or a marketing director of a company of any size and in the course of the day you had set four meetings with four different communication companies, you can be sure that by the third meeting you would already know the exact words the fourth company would use to present its credentials.
Broadly, what you’d hear would sound more or less like this: “We are a consulting company that specialises in communication, we are market leaders, we are a team of professionals who develop bespoke projects to satisfy customer needs, always reaching all the goals that have been set”.
How many of you have been in a similar situation? How many have you have thought: “there are too many market leaders”?
Now, imagine you had yet another meeting in your dairy with a fifth communication company. How would you react if, instead of starting with the usual “We are a … etc, etc…,” the manager of this communication company, takes off his jacket and understanding what you have been through already, kicks off by saying: “Good evening! Today, I understand, has been a long day and you have already spoken with four other communication companies. Therefore, you know perfectly well what our job is. Now, as I came up the stairs, I had an idea that I would like to share with you. You could stay here, in the office, listening to me explaining why we are the most reliable, successful communication company or, we could discuss ideas and compare thoughts over a good glass of wine.” Which option would you deem the most inviting?
This person has two options to choose from and a common denominator: in both cases this person will be intrigued by the presentation and interested to hear the rest.
